Metal Gear Solid 2 - Hold 3 [Fan Remake]

12/05/2023

As a last year project for my first Game Art year, we were a group of 6 and had to remake some part of a game and I was assigned to the Hold 3 from Metal Gear Solid 2 marking the beginning of being haunted by Hangar-like environment. As I love making sci-fi stuff and environment, I was really happy ! For this project, we chose to use the [Star Citizen workflow] :

Mid-poly assets + Mesh decals + Tileable + RGB Mask.

And it worked really well. To this day, I'm still happy with the result even tho, there's still a lot of things I'd upgrade and make better. I remember finishing the project not fully satisfied, I knew and still know I could have done a better job.

Again, the Star Citizen workflow is really great for this kind of project with a lot of assets especially if you want to make a really detailled environment without costing that much. I used just one atlas of details and it was enough. Since I had huge pieces, I used RGB masks to add more details to the assets while keeping a good texel density. I also remember having a lot of fun making some tileable, mostly the grating one. The only props I made with the HP to LP baking was the computer since we could see it really close.

The Metal Gear Ray was entirely done by Arthur Franchitto.
